30 Day Life Improvement Plan - Day 29 Time Tracking

source: batteryinyourleg.com
Tomorrow will conclude our 30 Day Life Improvement Plan.  For today, we're continuing to work on our final theme of managing time.  Here's the plan:

1.  Rate our life (see link below) and time management skills
http://coachintraining.blogspot.com/2010/11/30-day-life-improvement-plan-day-2.html

2.  Track how we manage our time from morning to noon/noon to evening

3.  List 3 ways to improve our time management skills.  Here are some suggestions -
     Prioritizing schedule
     Planning week
Weekly tracking progress on a certain goal
Continuing to track how we manage time
     Delegating?Eliminating
Doing the hardest...or easiest activity first
Scheduling time to work on our projects
     Reducing commitments
"Pausing" before deciding to become involved in something
Reducing time spent on the computer, watching TV, on the phone
     Knowing priorities
Venting about having to do something...and then doing it
Focusing on one task at a time
     Reviewing to-do list throughout day
Resting - sometimes we feel too tired to do something and procrastinate

Here's a rough idea of tomorrow's activities:
Review our Success Tool Kit
Update our list of completed projects - Which ones did we finish/avoid?  What can we get further help with?
Review progress on 30 Day Life Improvement Plan
Decide on a technique to keep us on track beyond this plan

30 Day Life Improvement Plan - Day 28 Delegate or Eliminate

source: batteryinyourleg.com
For today, we're doing our weekly technology reduction "diet" but we're also doing a couple of other activities.  Here's the plan:
1.  Decrease our technology habit (watch less TV, use the computer only during the evening, turn off the cell phone for a couple of hours, etc.)

2.  Give ourselves a mini-spa treatment (deep breathe/meditation/foot massage, etc)

3.  List what we want to do less of and think of ways to delegate, eliminate or group such activities

For tomorrow, we'll....
Rate our life and time management skills
Track how we manage our time from morning to noon/noon to evening
List 3 ways to improve our time management skills

Continued to success to everyone!

30 Day Life Improvement Plan - Day 27 Declutter Your Schedule

source: batteryinyourleg.com
Welcome to Day 27 of our 30 Day Life Improvement Plan.  As we're nearing the end of this plan, we're working on our time management skills by focusing on our main project.  For this day, we're removing both the physical clutter and the schedule/commitment clutter in an effort to "free" up more time in our lives.  Here's today's plan:
1.  Declutter for 1 hour

2.  Look at our schedule/commitments to see if there's anything which can be "decluttered" as well

For tomorrow, we'll...
Decrease our technology habit
Give ourselves a mini-spa treatment (deep breathe/meditation/foot massage, etc)
List what we want to do less of and think of ways to delegate, eliminate or group such activities

We now have less than 5 days before our 30 Day Life Improvement Plan ends.  With time a'ticking for these last 5 days we'll focus on how we manage our time.

Here's today's plan:

1.  Review our gratitude list (Day 11)
http://coachintraining.blogspot.com/2010/11/life-improvement-plan-day-day-11-who.html

2.  List what we would do with more time

For tomorrow, we'll...
List why our main project is important to us.  What's the reason?  How will it affect our life?
Schedule time to work on our main project

A Big Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!  I'm spending Thanksgiving with my parents' and sis which is nice.    I'll go for a pre-meal walk later today.  : )

Tuesday's Tip - 3 Questions on the 5-Minute Habit

source: © Royalty-Free/Corbis
This is a lengthier version of an entry which I did on Facebook a couple of months ago.

The 5-Minute Habit....What is it?  Who has it?  How much does it cost?  I'm going to roll up my sleeves and tackle these ever so urgent questions one-by-one.

What is it?
The 5-Minute Habit is a simple way of working on your goals.  You can absolutely spend more than 5 minutes working on a goal but for those of you who are living jam-packed lives. The 5-Minute Habit is an simple way to make consistent progress on your goals.

Since the 5-Minute Habit depends on the goal that you're working on, it's important that you first specify what your goals are.  Next, you think of some small way of working toward your goal.  For instance, I'm launching a life coaching business.  My 5-Minute Habit is to brainstorm on a topic that relates to my business.  I can brainstorm on the same topic, e.g., My Ideal Client, Marketing Strategies, or a different topic depending on my need.

The 5-Minute Habit allows me to daily move toward my goal.  It's easy and quick enough for me to do that even when I'm tired-tired, it's hard for me to persuade myself to not do it.

The following are some additional 5-Minute Habit suggestions -
To read about a topic that interests you--politics, finance, health, time management, finding a job

To add 5 more minutes of cardio or stretching to your exercise routine

To write on a theme that interests you

To slow down your eating pace and focus on the texture, taste, smell of your food

To meditate

To straighten your room/desk

To arrive at work earlier so that you don't feel rushed

To prepare to leave work earlier so you leave on time

To listen to a foreign language

To learn a new word and use it in a sentence or practice saying it

To be more aware of your surroundings...smells, sights, sounds, temperature

To do a gratitude journal

To list you successes for the day

To plan and prioritize your day

To practice listening deeply to someone - words used, pace of speech, tone of voice

As always, these are just suggestions and I'm confident that are lots of other 5-Minute Habits that could be created.

OK, now for the remaining questions:
Who has it?  I do (that's kinda obvious)...and hopefully, you'll have a go at the 5-Minute Habit.

How much does it cost?  It doesn't necessarily cost money to have a 5-Minute Habit but it will, of course, be a "cost" in time.  Since this is time that you'll be taking to be healthier, smarter, wealthier, calmer or whatever else your goals are, then I think that it'll be a worthwhile investment.

A BIG THANK YOU!

It's now over a week since I've been blogging.  I'm still learning about blogging, starting an online business, habit coaching, and so on...and so on.  I want to THANK everyone for reading my blog and a BIG THANK YOU to my sis for following it.  You're a pioneer, G!  : )  I also want to reveal the results of last week's survey:  50% voted "Anytime!" and 50% voted "Morning" in response to the question, "What is your favorite time of day?"  The results are a bit skewed because in a fit of whimsy, I cast my vote.  I'm still not sure what the ethics are on that.  I did only vote once, though.

Habits - Le Bien et Le Mal

We've all got habits, right?  Some of our habits helps us and some unfortunately harm us.  Often we focus on habits we want to eliminate but I think it's also useful to focus on habits to add to our lives.
So this is what I did about two weeks ago, as part of my EZ Detox Plan.
(You can also skip this and just read the questions at the bottom.)
1.  I figured which areas of my life I wanted to focus on.  I chose 3:  Health, Time Management and Organizing.

2.  Then, I listed my good (Le Bien) and my bad (Le Mal) habits.  For instance with "Health" a good habit is that I practice deep breathing and my bad habit (Le Mal) is that I undersleep.

3.  After listing, Le Bien et Le Mal, I wrote some "Remedies" for my bad habits.  An obvious remedy is for me to sleep more.  : )

4.  From there, I had an idea about which habits I wanted to remove and which I'd like to add to my life.  New habit - Sleep 7+ hrs daily.  Am still working on that, by the way.

Q:  And the next step?  I made a shorter list of about 7 habits that I wanted to add to my life and and about 5 that I wanted to remove.

Q:  What's a faster way of doing this?
a) Think of a positive habit that you've added to your life in the past and acknowledge the effort that it took.  b) List the first bad habit that comes to your mind.
c) List 3 ways of eliminating/modifying it.
d)  Put it to action!

Bonus- Read an article on changing your habit and implement one of the suggestions.
